The Hedding UMC Community Kitchen

Since COVID-19 began in early 2020, the Hedding United Methodist Church building had been closed to public worship until recently and has been unable to serve food to the Barre community. Though difficult, the closing of our kitchen facilities has given us a chance to focus more on food insecurity issues in Central Vermont. As a result, we’ve concluded that a commercial kitchen will better serve the needs of the greater community; by expanding our own capacity to provide much needed meals, and by serving as a community resource for culinary training programs designed to improve economic stability in the area.

For every crisis there is an opportunity; and this crisis has prompted the church to launch a Fundraiser for The Hedding UMC Community Kitchen with a goal of raising $300,000 for the needed renovations.

Fall Fundraiser

Due to a matching donation of $25,000 we, as a community, now have the opportunity to raise a total of $50,000 in addition to the $156,111 already raised as of September 1, 2021.

Please help us reach our goal of becoming a commercial community kitchen with a cause.

All donations small or large are appreciated.

* Providing prepared meals to our Hedding Church food shelf.
* Continuing and expanding upon our Community Christmas Dinner tradition.
* Strengthening our relationship with the other area churches who work to feed our neighbors.
* Hosting “Cooking on a Budget” classes in partnership with Capstone.
* Creating a relationship with the Central Vermont Meals on Wheels program.
* Expanding on our partnership with the Good Samaritan Haven.

Community Development
* Basic cooking classes and menu planning for young families.
* Partnering with a high school/job corp/tech school to offer space for their expanded programming.
* Hosting programs that train people to cook at area restaurants and food service institutions ie. schools, hospitals and nursing homes.
* Hosting new start ups hoping to break into the local food economy.
* Partnering with CVMC to provide cooking and diet classes for cancer patients.
