Want to get connected to our community?

Below you will find many ways that you can be involved in Hedding’s ministries:

Get Involved with Outreach Ministries

“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James 2:14-18

Friday Night Community Dinner

Great food! Great music! Great community! The doors open at 4:30 and the dinner is served at 5:30! Live music keeps the community singing, clapping, and generally enjoying the time we spend together! Volunteers in the kitchen have as much fun as the guests!

Eat with us! Greet and get to know guests! Join the ad hoc band that gathers each week! Help cook! Help serve! Get involved! Talk with Phyllis about being a part of the kitchen crew! Talk to Patt about helping with children and youth engagement! Just show up to help build community!

Diaper Depot

Since May 2023, we have collected and distributed thousands of diapers. Families come to the church and, with no questions asked, receive a package of diapers and some wipes. We are always in need of more. Diapers of all sizes, pull-ups, and wipes go out the door about as quickly as they arrive! Help us sort, stock, and hand out diapers!

Food Shelf

Open three afternoons a week, our food shelf serves dozens of people weekly. We are always in need of non-perishables, fresh produce, toiletries, pet food, and more. We can always use a few new volunteers to pick up and deliver food from donating stores, stock shelves, or guide guests as they pick out the food they need.

Donate Food, Toiletries, and Diapers

Our shelves are stocked primarily by the donations from our church family and community! On Sunday mornings, Phyllis always lets us know what the primary needs are for the coming weeks. We also have an Amazon Wish List that we try to keep up to date so that you can easily click there to find out and purchase donations.

Connect Through Our Discipleship Ministries

“All the believers were united and shared everything. They would sell pieces of property and possessions and distribute the proceeds to everyone who needed them. Every day, they met together in the temple and ate in their homes. They shared food with gladness and simplicity.” Acts 2:44-46

Bible Study

Pastor Rae leads Bible study seasonally throughout the year. We usually read through a study book over the course of four to six weeks and gather to discuss the contents. We offer two identical weekly sessions: noon on Tuesdays and 6:30pm on Thursdays. This allows people who have differing work and family schedules to fully participate as they are able. Books are available for anyone to take a copy, even if you aren’t able to participate in the discussion groups. Check out our Calendar and Newsletter page to find out about upcoming Bible studies.

Hedding's Book Club

Our book club is run by one of our recent college grads, Anya Mae. Each month, Anya chooses a book (alternating non-fiction and fiction) for the club to read and then leads the discussion at the end of the month. These books are chosen specifically to help expand our world-views, walk for a while in the shoes of someone different from ourselves, and learn a bit about liberation and justice work. Check out our Calendar and Newsletter page to find out this month’s book.

Youth Group

Each month, our Children, Youth, and Family Ministries Coordinator, Patt Miscavage, leads a fun event for our teens and tweens! Bowling, sledding, movie nights, and more have been times for kids to come together, laugh, and simply be themselves in a supportive environment as they learn to create Christian community together.

Children's Time and Worship Space

Pastor Rae leads a Children’s Time every week during Sunday morning worship that brings the message and scripture passage of that morning to life for the little ones. After their message and a prayer, kids are invited to go back to the children’s worship space in Epworth Hall connected to the sanctuary (or to the nursery for the wee ones). In the worship space, children can craft and play with Legos as they think about the message they’ve just learned. Our Children, Youth, and Family Ministries Coordinator, Patt Miscavage, also makes sure that each child receives a packet of activity sheets that they can use in their worship space or bring home to share with their families.

Participate in Social Action With Us

“Thus says the Lord: Do what is right and just. Rescue the victims from the hand of their oppressors. Do not wrong or oppress the resident alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.” Jeremiah 22:3

Contact Elected Officials

Write a letter or make a phone call to encourage our elected leaders to make decisions with compassion and justice. Our Social Action Team will help lead us in collective actions, like a letter writing campaign, to help leaders know that, as their constituents, people of faith want to see all of God’s people and all of creation cared for. Sometimes we write thank you notes when we see good things happening, sometimes we ask our leaders to vote in a certain way on pressing issues, and sometimes we are simply bringing attention to problems that need to be addressed. Look for information in our newsletters and listen for it on Sunday mornings.

Attend Rallys and Protests

Sometimes we need to show up with others to make it clear that violence and oppression in the community, nation, and world will not be tolerated by people of faith.

Build Community with Through Fellowship, Fun, Arts, and Events

“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.” Psalm 126:1-3

Fellowship Time & Potlucks

Every Sunday, following worship, we gather to eat delicious baked goods, drink coffee, laugh together, and generally enjoy one another’s company! It is the principle time for community connection in the life of our congregation!

On the last Sunday of each month, during fellowship time, we have a potluck where everyone brings a dish to share and we feast together with great joy!

Concerts & Events

Every few months, on a Friday or Saturday evening, we host a concert in our sanctuary and invite the larger community to join us for an evening of fun and entertainment! Check out our Calendar and Newsletter page to find out about upcoming events!

Knit & Crochet Group

Do you love to knit or crochet? Do you want to learn how to make a prayer shawl or just work on your own project with some delightful company? From October through April, when we all try to stay warm inside, this group gets together twice per month: on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 1pm and on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6pm!

Dungeons & Dragons Club

Do you enjoy role playing games or want to learn how? This group meets most Wednesdays at 6pm in the choir room for some hilarious adventures as we practice our terrible (and terribly funny) accents in some imaginative improv!

Make Music With Us

“Sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord! Bless his name! Share the news of his saving work every single day! Declare God’s glory among the nations; declare his wondrous works among all people because the Lord is great and so worthy of praise.” Psalm 96:1-4

Church Choir

Do you sing? Do you enjoy singing in parts while in the company of beautiful voices and mischievous shenanigans? Look no further! This is the choir for you! The choir practices most Thursdays from September through June at 5:30pm. We arrive on Sunday mornings for a quick run-through at 9:30 so that we’re ready to go for the 10am worship service.

Kid's Chorus

After worship on Sundays, our PreK and elementary kids gather with Ms. Anne to learn song and movement centered around the love of God and the love of neighbor! When they have practiced a song for a few weeks, they then share it with the congregation during worship! All children are welcome to participate!

Friday Night Community Dinner Band

This group is more about just showing up and making music than a regular rehearsed band. Jam with us every Friday night! We usually begin to gather around 4:30 when the door open for the dinner and we play until food is served and then some (until we get hungry!) Bring an instrument and join the fun!
