Do you wish to leave a legacy of support for our ministries?

Hedding’s ministries have long been supported by the legacy gifts given by many parishioners who have since left this earth and many who’s gifts are being given even now.

What would my legacy gift be going to support?

We have four ways for your gifts to be designated for the future of Hedding:

Mission Outreach – help us continue to help others for years to come. This designation will specifically go to providing the kind of outreach that Hedding is known for in our community: feeding the hungry, keeping shelter over people’s heads, helping with utility and medical bills, transportation needs, and so much more.

Capital Expenses – help us keep our building beautiful, welcoming, and waterproof. The building is NOT the church, but it is our church building! Because of its sound structure and welcoming spaces, we are able to house amazing ministries, have spirit filled worship, and provide a space of sanctuary for weary people in a broken world.

General Operating – As boring as this sounds, keeping the lights on and the staff paid does help us keep doing awesome ministry! This also helps us provide discipleship curriculum for God’s children of all ages and allows us to keep reaching out into the community so that people know where to find the help they might need or learn how to help us help others.

Undesignated – It might seem silly to designate your giving into an undesignated fund, but this is often the rainy-day fund, or the someone-had-an-amazing-new-ministry-idea fund, or it can fill in the gaps when there are shortages in other ways.

How are legacy gifts stewarded?

Our Operations Team has created a Legacy Giving Plan that takes very seriously the work of good stewardship of the gifts that we receive. We are working to create a legacy book so that all who have given in the past, and those who will give in the future, can be remembered for decades to come. We wish to honor faithful giving and the intentions of the generosity of those who want to see Hedding doing the work God calls us to for many many years to come.

All of our endowments are invested and we work with a financial advisor who has been a trusted friend of the church for over 20 years. In the last few years, we have also set and acted on the intention of only investing in companies that work hard to be good to the people and the world around them by only allowing our endowments to be invested in ESG companies. ESG stands for environmental, social, and governance. ESG investing refers to how companies score on these responsibility metrics and standards for potential investments. Environmental criteria gauge how a company safeguards the environment. Social criteria examine how it manages relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, and communities. Governance measures a company’s leadership, executive pay, audits, internal controls, and shareholder rights.

We believe that good stewardship of our earthly resources includes making sure that we don’t use our legacy gifts to support companies who would send more people into the kind of crisis that has them asking for help. Instead we want even our investments to be doing good in the world.

Don't I have to be wealthy to leave a legacy gift?

No. People of all economic backgrounds can leave a legacy gift to support Hedding’s ministries for years to come. Find out how here!

Bequests

A legacy gift where the donor includes a nonprofit in their will, leaving a portion of their estate to it.

As you consider your end of life financial plans, might Hedding be a place that you consider gifting as you write out a will? One of our largest donations was from Dr. Reynolds who left Hedding, not only a large sum of money, but also the intention of focusing us on two of his passions – caring for the poor in our neighborhood and keeping our building sound and beautiful. Might you join him as you consider how to gift from your estate after you finish the race of this life?

Retirement Plans and Life Insurance

A legacy gift where the donor leaves their unused retirement assets to a nonprofit or names the nonprofit as the beneficiary of their life insurance policy.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A legacy gift where the donor gives a large donation in exchange for a fixed income payment

Retained Life Estates

A legacy gift where the donor transfers ownership of their property to a nonprofit but retains the right to use it until the set term is up.

Gifts of Stock and Bonds

Although the stock market’s fluctuations can decrease the value of your investments, donating stock can provide a secure long-term impact. Contributing appreciated stock to a charitable organization assures you support a cause you care about, while simultaneously avoiding capital gains tax on the stock’s appreciated value. This means that you can maximize the impact of your investments, while also benefiting from tax savings.
