A Kitchen To Serve The Hungry

For every crisis there is an opportunity. Due to the pandemic, the Hedding United Methodist Church building is closed to groups. We can’t do our weekly Friday Community Dinners, we can’t even worship together in our sanctuary, but this does give us a chance to upgrade our kitchen facilities so that when everything opens up again, we can do even more ministry! We envision, in addition to our Friday Community Dinners, potentially:

  • hosting programs that train people (young people, people reentering the workforce, post-prison reentry programs) to cook and work in kitchens

  • partnering with a high school/job corp/tech school to offer space for their expanded programming

  • hosting new start ups hoping to break into the local food economy

To do this, we must bring our kitchen up to code and make changes for safety and efficiency.

We are making an appeal to all of our members, as well as the wider community, to help us do renovations during this required down time so that we can do even more ministry when we get the go-ahead to reopen.

Central to our ministries and mission is doing God’s work by feeding the hungry, both in body and spirit. Will you join this effort and make a gift? You can give online here or send your gift to “Kitchen Appeal”, Hedding UMC, 40 Washington St., Barre, VT 05641.

Thank you for your support of our ministries!
